Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 With Redsnow on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

Apple released today iOS 5.0.1 for registered developers only. You can download iOS 5.0.1 from our download links posted here. iOS 5.0.1 comes with multitasking gestures for the first gen of iPad, some improved battery life and some security fixes among other small bug fixes.

Just a few moments ago iPhone Dev Team member, MuscleNerd, announced via Twitter that you can jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with Redsnow on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The only catch is that you need to select iOS 5.o IPSW through GUI or command line. However we expect that iPhone Dev Team releases an update for the Redsnow jailbreaking tool that supports iOS 5.0.1.

Take notice that jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with Redsnow will not work on iPad 2 nor on the just released iPhone 4S. Also this is a tethered jailbreak which means that every time when you restart your iDevice you will have to boot into a tethered state.

Requirements:

Now follow the steps below in order to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with Redsnow on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.Step 1: Connect your iDevice to your PC/Mac through the USB-cable. It’s best make a backup, because you never know what could happen.Step 3: Run Redsnow. Click on “Extras” and then hit on “Select IPSW” option and manually select iOS 5 (not iOS 5.0.1) version.Step 4: Go back and this time select “Jailbreak” option and then click on “Install Cydia”. A set of instructions will pop up in order to put your device into DFU mode. After that Redsnow will apply the jailbreak.Step 5: After Cydia installation process is complete you will have to boot your iDevice into a tethered state in order for the jailbreak to work. For that enter DFU mode and under “Extra” select “Just Boot”.

Congratulations. You’ve successfully jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with Redsnow on iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
