Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with Redsnow on iPhone 4, 3GS iPad & iPod Touch

iOS 5.0.1 was just released and it brings some major improvements that you’ll find more than helpful. It brings battery drain improvements and multitouch gestures for the iPad, along with other minor bug fixes.

You can jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with the existing version of Redsnow, in a tethered state, and in order to do that you can follow the tutorial below.

You can jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 on the following devices:

iPhone 4, iPhone 3GSiPad 1iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G

Note: If you are an unlocker you must skip to the end of this tutorial, because you have  to preserve your current baseband. So skip directly ot the “For Unlockers” part of this tutorial.

As I mentioned above, this jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 is a tethered one, so you’ll have to boot in a tethered state each time you reboot your iPhone 4,3GS, iPad or iPod Touch.

Update your iDevice to iOS 5.0.1Download Rednow e and iOS 5.0 from the download links belowStart Redsnow and select “Extras” and then “Select IPSW”Point Redsnow to the iOS 5.0 IPSW file previously downloadedGo back to the main menu and click on “Jailbreak” and then on “Install Cydia”Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch in DFU modeOnce the jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 process is complete you have to boot into a tethered stateStart Redsnow again and click on “Extras”Select the “Just Boot” option and follow the on-screen instructions to enter DFU mode again

That’s it! Once your device restarts it will be fully jailbroken on iOS 5.0.1 with a fully functional Cydia icon on your springboard.

For Unlockers:

If you are unlocker you need to stay away from the jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 tutorial above and stock iOS 5.0.1 and create a custom IPSW file that will preserve your current baseband for unlocking with Ultransow or Gevey SIM.
